Battle of Blue Licks

[edit]

The article Battle of Blue Licks doesn't mention Silas Harlan. -Crunchy Numbers 16:22, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Which is odd to me because in every HC history you pick up, the Battle of Blue Licks is listed - that's what Silas Harlan is 'famous' for. --Mari Adkins 13:11, 4 August 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by MariAdkins (talkcontribs)

Highways

[edit]

If you're going to include HWY 160 and HWY 38, then 72 and 987 should be listed, though I don't think they have their own Wiki entries.--Mari Adkins 20:30, 19 December 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by MariAdkins (talkcontribs)

Adding content

[edit]

Since there has been such a visceral reaction to me putting in a tiny bit of information that is normal for nearly every county page, here are some sources since one wasn'tenough. Every one describes how Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky, or Appalachia has shifted to the right, so there shouldn't be any additional issues. Additionally, the clearly cited infobox that very clearly shows a 2020 result of 85.38% is more than enough evidence. Citation does not need to be given to clearly state that what you can very clearly see in the below infobox, as seen nearly everywhere on this website. Unless there is a massive issue and every single one of those (as well as thousands more) are incorrect and in need of specific citation, this one doesn't need any either. 141.154.49.21 (talk) 22:30, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There was no visceral reaction. I simple removed improperly sourced material. As I said on your talk page Twice you made unsourced claims about Harlan County "Like the rest of Eastern Kentucky" when there was no data for the rest of Eastern Kentucky. You then changed it to "much like the rest of rural Kentucky" with a source that did not compare Harlan County to all of rural Kentucky. And twice you made the claim that in 2020 "Trump [had] the highest margin any candidate has received in history over Democratic nominee Joe Biden." 2020 was the only time Trump and Biden have run against each other, there is no data in the table for any other county, and the Republican margin over the Democrats actually decreased in 2020. The third time you changed the claim to "Trump [having] the best result (85.38%) any candidate has ever received." I have restored a neutral version of that claim, with a source, and a clarification tha the actual margin decreased. Meters (talk) 00:01, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You've listed a bunch of references that you did not add when you made your edit. I'm not going to read them all. Aside from the grammatical issue of your "in history over Democratic nominee Joe Biden" that leaves you seemingly claiming that Joe Biden has previously run for president, and the outright error that 2020 had the highest margin, which one or two do you think reliably support your statement "Like the rest of Eastern Kentucky, Harlan County has only continued to shift to the right, giving Trump the highest margin any candidate has received in history over Democratic nominee Joe Biden." And which claim do you want in the article, "Eastern Kentucky", or "rural Kentucky"? Meters (talk) 00:18, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The sentence referred to Trump having the highest margin in history (sourced, according to table), only happening to be against Joe Biden. Nowhere was it said that Joe Biden has run every time in history. That can be attributed to a grammatical error. Of the citations I added, every single one referred to "eastern Kentucky," "Kentucky," "Appalachia," or "rural Kentucky." Harlan County falls into every single one of these, so don't say there's no data. Pick whichever one you want, both work. 141.154.49.21 (talk) 00:37, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that's not what you wrote, and either way, as I've pointed out more than once, it was wrong. The 2020 election did not have the greatest margin.
As for which part of Kentucky you are referring to, it makes a difference. Is all of Eastern Kentucky rural? Are there no rural areas anywhere in Kentucky but the east? Unless both of those are true you cannot simply interchange "rural" and "Eastern" Kentucky. Meters (talk) 05:09, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
